I cheat a little, because I to say that this is not really a love letter. It is, in my view, however, the sweetest, loving, ironic, contextually, in your face, 20 pages or so in all English literature! Any statement, I know.
James Joyce wrote a series of short stories, called "Dubliners" (not "The Dubliners", as most people would say ---- but that's another story). The history of the last group called "The Dead". This story is a car very impressed, Irish politician, who with his wife at a party. As the madman who imagine the party, and his reaction to her like that.
Subtract the end of this long story short, he and his wife in their room, where he 'ideas and expectations, which corresponded to their privileged position. What an idiot!
Reluctantly, his wife, very upset and sad, tells the story of a young man of his past named Michael Furey. Our hero suffers History(all the time asking why his wife could even be considered anything other than themselves), then petulently question: "What happened to this man, where is he now?
His answer: "He's dead, I believe he died for me."
I taught in the last 20 pages or so of "dead" as an entity in itself, the love story of Michael Furey - perhaps the greatest love story of all time - years. Try it out. It is a love letter, writing, and one of the best.
Washington and Napoleon wrote two letters home to Nice, maybe there is something about the pressure of "I could die tomorrow, will find a man who wears his soul"
